for your questi...Thanks for your comment, Skyle :)
for your questions
1. I used pigment because it's a good material to simulate dust in my opinion, it has small grain and matt surface when it's dried (depends on the method that you use; if you dilute pigment with fixer and paint on the base, you will get smooth pigment surface. But if you paint the fixer on the base and dip the brush in pigment then tap the brush to make pigment fall in to the fixer on the base, this method will make pigment remain as a grain but also stick on the surface)
2. Many manufacturers made their pigments with natural color tone and it's easy to use and simulate dust effect (or another effect) on the ground work.
3. I used pigment fixer to fix them, you can find it from many manufacturers (MIG, AK, AMMO)
4. Normally, I didn't paint over the pigment because I used it in the last weathering process before finished the project. But sometime like this cliff, if I used pigment at the last process it will cover all of the paint effect that I made before (highlight, shadow) and make it hard to see the contrast on the cliff. That's why I used it before oil wash and final highlight.

However, there are many ways to simulate dust effect such as oil paint or acrylic paint. But in my opinion, pigment is the easiest way to get the same effect as made from other paints.

Hope it helps :)
ThorThorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11229528394976157734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-367467702846870674.post-88957752282629722732014-04-18T02:59:12.595-07:002014-04-18T02:59:12.595-07:00WOW!!! Thank you so much for saring your work.
Nevertheless I do not quite understand how you use the pigments? Do you use them to achieve a very matte surface or texture? Or is it because of the colourtone? How do you fix them? Do you paint over the pigments again?
I would really love to learn more of you using pigments...These rocks look so amazingly realistic!

Best regards,
Skyle Skylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17220828024672437048noreply@blogger.com
