This is my latest commission project, Inspired from "Brother Fonsel" a standard bearer space marine from the Imperial Fists Chapter, one of the masterpieces by Volomir. My customer likes this marine and he asked me to make a marine resembles this masterpiece (except the flag that he didn't want :). So this is my version of The Imperial Fists Space Marines, a tribute to Brother Fonsel.
I started this project by learning through Volomir's article "Brother Fonsel Step by Step" to see his thought and how he works. I really like how he created a posing of this marine, it shows the sensation of movement very well and makes it looks very attractive. I want my mini has similar posture like this but it's going to be hard for me to sculpt a new thigh to show more movement like he did. The best way for me is to find the parts and put it together to make it similar as Brother Fonsel as possible, so I used the legs from Space Marine Vanguard Veteran Squad. It's not much to show the movement like his works but this is the best legs I can find. :) The other parts was combined from Vanguard Veteran Squad and Space Marine Tactical Squad, except the head came from Veteran Sergeant Aurelius (2005 Games Day Miniature), same as Volomir used. I removed all of decorating details on the legs and made the purity seals and skirt? (or tabard? I don't know what is it called?) from Magic-Sculpt. Also, I lifted a torso a bit up from the legs and made a bigger waist, in order to make the proportion looks appropriate with the scale (in my taste :)
This is what I have done so far. Thank you so much to Volomir, for sharing the ideas, step by step article and inspirational :)
I'll post an update soon.
Nice work I will be following your Wip, interested in the yellow painting style and thought I would do an imperial fists diorama. Great Blog :)
