“ Want a ride ? ”

I built this diorama around 2005 or 2006 and took a photo of it to enter in Digital Imagination Competition held by AFV Modeller Magazine in 2006. The result came out with my work winning number two award. The vehicle seen in this diorama, the V-100, was taken from Trophy Model. It had been modified with additional details to make it look as close as the real one (especially the welding trails which can be seen around the vehicle). I used VP figures (Verlinden Productions) as well as Legend’s and modified them with parts from Dragons to make them look more natural and to allow them to better express what’s happening in the scene. This is because I believe that, to become great diorama makers, one requires not only superb techniques (painting, diorama making, and composition) but also great skills in expressing and conveying ideas and messages through his or her works. The diorama needs to be able to speak for itself as to what is happening, where it is happening, and how it is happening – whether through the facial expression of the figures or the overall atmosphere of the scene. Examples of wonderful diorama pieces can be seen from the works of many famous modellers such as Douglas Lee [Click], who has won “Best of Show” award from Euromilitaire many times. Simply by looking at his work, one can understand the story and what is happening at the scene clearly. This is why I put so much effort into the figures on this diorama. Because I try my best to make them convey emotions and what have happened at that time (and hoping to make it even better in my future works)

ผลงานชิ้นนี้ ผมทำไว้ในปี 2005-2006 และส่งภาพร่วมประกวดงาน Digital Imagination Competition ในปี 2006 ที่จัดโดยหนังสือ AFV Modeller Magazine และได้รางวัลที่ 2 จากการประกวดนี้  ตัวรถ V-100 นั้นเป็นโมเดลของยี่ห้อ Trophy model ที่ตกแต่งรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมให้ใกล้เคียงกับของจริง (โดยเฉพาะส่วนของรอยเชื่อมที่จะมีอยู่รอบคัน) ส่วนฟิกเกอร์เป็นของ VP (verlinden Productions) และ Legend ที่ดัดแปลงและผสมกับชิ้นส่วนของ Dragon เพื่อให้ตัวฟิกเกอร์นั้นดูเป็นธรรมชาติและบอกเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นภายในฉากได้ดีขึ้น เพราะผมคิดว่าการทำฉากจำลองนั้น นอกเหนือจากเทคนิคในการทำงานต่างๆแล้ว (การทำสี, การทำฉาก และการจัดองค์ประกอบ) สิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดก็คือแนวคิดหรือเรื่องราวที่ต้องการจะนำเสนอภายในฉาก เพื่อให้ตัวฉากจำลอง สามารถบอกได้ว่ากำลังเกิดอะไรขึ้น ที่ไหน อย่างไร ซึ่งแนวคิดหรือเรื่องราวนี้จะสื่อผ่านทางสีหน้าและท่าทางของตัวฟิกเกอร์ และทำให้ผู้ชมงานสามารถเข้าใจถึงเรื่องราวรวมถึงอารมณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นภายในฉากได้ เหมือนกับงานของโมเดลเลอร์ที่มีชื่อเสียงหลายๆคน (อย่างเช่น Douglas Lee [Click] ที่ได้รางวัล Best of Show จาก Euromilitaire หลายครั้ง) ที่เพียงแค่มองผลงานของเขา ก็สามารถเข้าใจได้ถึงเรื่องราวและเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นได้เป็นอย่างดี ดังนั้นในงานชิ้นนี้ผมจึงให้ความสำคัญในส่วนของฟิกเกอร์มากที่สุด และพยายามทำให้มันสื่อถึงอารมณ์และเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นให้ดีที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้ในตอนนั้น (และหวังว่าจะทำให้ดีขึ้นอีกในอนาคต)

These photos of the Diorama were taken using SLR Camera (film). The background was a place near my house which looks quite similar to those environments in Vietnam. (Being in South East Asia and not so far from each other) The photos were taken using sunlight to create actual senses of light and shadows. I had my freelance photographer friend “Yothapol” taken them for me. The photos were then re-touched by me using the magic of Photoshop 7.0.

ส่วนการถ่ายภาพชุดนี้ถ่ายโดยใช้ฉากหลังในบริเวณใกล้ๆบ้านผม เพราะจะมีลักษณะภูมิประเทศคล้ายๆกับเวียดนาม (เพราะเราอยู่ใน South East Asia เหมือนกัน) และถ่ายกับแสงแดดธรรมชาติเพื่อให้เกิดความสมจริงของแสงและเงา ซึ่งเพื่อนของผม Yothapol (ตากล้องอิสระ) เป็นคนมาถ่ายภาพชุดนี้ให้ จากนั้นผมนำภาพไป retouch ส่วนที่ไม่ต้องการออก และทำให้ส่วนของฉากหลังและพื้นดินภายใน diorama นั้นดูกลมกลืนเข้าด้วยกัน โดยใช้โปรแกรม Photoshop 7.0
