Casualties of War

Here are the photos of the finished vignette. This project I wanted to express the feeling of German soldiers who exhausted and sorrow from their failure in the battle, and the things they have seen during the retreat. The title "Casualties of War" in this project does not mean only an injured soldier or a civilian corpse, but it means they all have been affected by the war not only physically but mentally. War is a terrible thing, it is the concept of this project.

Although this concept can be completed with only a soldier and a civilian corpse, I put another figure on the back for a better composition. The second figure will also help to convince the viewer to imagine it is not just a story of one or two walking soldiers, maybe there are a large group of retreating soldiers out of this scene. 
The base and building were made from plaster, a pile of debris made from smashed brick mixed with white glue. The painting was done with acrylics, enamels and pigments. The figures are from Dragon and a civilian arm was sculpted from Magic sculpt with a Hornet hand, all painted with Vallejo acrylics.

This is the project I have been waiting to finish for many years, I am so happy to have finally finished it. Diorama and vignette are my most favorite subject to do but it takes a lot of time and effort to finish. During the past several years, I have finished only a few pieces in both diorama and vignette. Even though diorama or vignette requires many things in order to finish the piece, it is always a pleasure to have a chance to do it. I still have many diorama and vignette projects that I have planned to do, hope I will find the chance to finish them soon.

ภาพผลงานที่เสร็จแล้วครับ งานชิ้นนี้ผมต้องการสื่อถึงเรื่องราวของทหารเยอรมันที่เหนื่อยล้าและผิดหวังจากการพ่ายแพ้ในการรบ ทำให้ต้องล่าถอยออกจากเมืองและได้เห็นถึงสภาพความโหดร้ายที่เกิดจากการสู้รบของทั้งสองฝ่าย ชื่อผลงานที่แปลว่า "ผู้สูญเสียจากสงคราม" ในที่นี่ไม่ได้หมายถึงเฉพาะทหารที่ได้รับบาดเจ็บหรือพลเมืองที่เสียชีวิตจากการสู้รบเท่านั้น แต่ยังหมายถึงทุกๆคนไม่ว่าจะเป็นทหารหรือพลเรือนนั้นต่างได้รับผลกระทบจากสงครามกันทั้งหมด ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทั้งทางร่างกายหรือทางจิตใจ เพราะสงครามคือสิ่งที่เลวร้ายและน่ากลัว นี่เป็นแนวความคิดที่ผมนำมาใช้ในการสร้างผลงานชิ้นนี้ครับ

ซึ่งแนวความคิดที่นำมาใช้สร้างงานนี้ จริงๆแล้วมีเพียงแค่ฟิกเกอร์ทหารหนึ่งตัวกับศพของพลเรือนก็สามารถสื่อให้เห็นถึงแนวคิดนี้ได้ แต่สาเหตุที่ผมเลือกที่จะใส่ฟิกเกอร์ทหารตัวที่สองลงไปตรงด้านหลัง เพราะมันจะช่วยให้การจัดองค์ประกอบของฉากนั้นดูน่าสนใจขึ้น รวมถึงฟิกเกอร์ตัวที่สองยังช่วยโน้มน้าวให้คนดูจินตนาการได้ว่า เรื่องราวของฉากนี้ไม่ได้มีเพียงแค่ทหารที่เดินอยู่สองคน แต่อาจจะมีกองทหารที่กำลังล่าถอยออกจากเมืองอยู่ด้านหลังขอบเขตของฉากนี้ด้วยครับ
ส่วนการทำฉากนี้ ตัวพื้นฉากและอาคารทำขึ้นมาจากปูนพลาสเตอร์ ส่วนกองเศษอิฐทำจากอิฐจริงนำมาทุบละเอียดผสมดับกาวน้ำ ทั้งหมดทำสีด้วยสีอะครีลิค อินาเมล และพิกเมนต์ครับ ส่วนฟิกเกอร์ดัดแปลงมาจากฟิกเกอร์ของ Dragon ส่วนแขนของศพพลเรือนปั้นขึ้นมาด้วย Magic sculpt และใช้ชิ้นส่วนมือของ Hornet ทั้งหมดทำสีด้วยสีอะครีลิค Vallejo ครับ

งานชิ้นนี้เป็นงานที่ผมตั้งใจอยากจะทำให้เสร็จมาหลายปี ดีใจที่ในที่สุดมันก็เสร็จเสียที ส่วนตัวแล้วผมเป็นคนที่ชื่นชอบการทำ diorama กับ vignette มากที่สุดในทั้งหมดของการทำโมเดล แต่งานประเภทนี้เป็นงานที่ตั้องใช้เวลาและความพยายามสูงในการที่จะทำให้เสร็จสักหนึ่งชิ้น โดยเฉพาะงานที่มีขนาดใหญ่จะยิ่งใช้เวลามาก ช่วงหลายปีที่ผ่านมาผมจึงทำฉากจำลองทั้งเล็กและใหญ่เสร็จได้เพียงแค่ไม่กี่ชิ้นเท่านั้น ถึงแม้ว่ามันจะต้องเหนื่อยและลงทุนลงแรงเยอะกับงานประเภทนี้ แต่ส่วนตัวก็ยังมีความสุขทุกๆครั้งที่ได้ทำมันจนเสร็จสมบูรณ์ ออกมาเป็นรูปเป็นร่างอย่างที่ตั้งใจไว้ครับ หลังจากงานชิ้นนี้แล้วผมยังมีไอเดียของฉากที่อยากจะทำอยู่อีกหลายชิ้น บางชิ้นก็ทำค้างไว้ตั้งแต่หลายปีก่อน หวังว่าจะมีโอกาสได้นำกลับมาทำต่อให้เสร็จเร็วๆนี้ครับ
